Pure Joy

Opening the mailbox and seeing the package I have been anxiously awaiting has at long last arrived...

Catching my breath as the video starts and my boy, my growing boy, flashes onto the screen...

Hearing he is doing very well, is "a very good sleeper" and "an easygoing baby" and "very smart"...

Seeing his foster mother care for him, touch him lovingly, talk about him so knowingly...

Realizing that his hearing may in fact be better than we thought, and learning that he is speaking words...

Knowing that it really won't be long now until I have two little boys (who I think are going to be very close in size!)...

Yesterday was a day of pure joy, and today is more of the same! I cannot even tell you how many times I have watched that video. Nathan is so sweet, precious, calm, beautiful...I know it is just a little glimpse, but already I am in awe of how God is putting together our little family so perfectly. The tears fell as our social worker gave Nathan the little toys we had sent for him. The book that I held in my hands just a few weeks ago, now held by the sweetest little hands. He loved the stacking cups we sent, and he sat and was entertained by them for most of the video. I can't wait to discover more about his personality, to find out what makes him smile.

Nathan is 16 months old today...I am praying so hard that this will be the month. I am ready to meet my boy!

Things to Not Do Before a 10 Mile Run

Going to the zoo is always a fun time!

Yesterday Matthew and I headed to the zoo

for the first time this season

and we both spent the day smiling.

What I didn't think about:

the fact that I had a 10 mile run planned for today!

Spending the day walking

(in brand new shoes that gave me blisters)

the day before my long run

was not the best idea I've ever had.

Still, we had a great time!

We met up with Brad, who was helping out at the zoo for the day

(it was Arbor Day and he is a forester)

and we had so much fun watching Matthew enjoy the animals.

He loved the tiger so much!

Today was my last long run before the half marathon!

Even with the blisters, it went very well.

My friend Hayley is running it with me,

and I don't think I could have done it without her.

We finished 10 miles in 1 hour 51 minutes.

That is 20 minutes faster than the last time I ran 10 miles!

(I've only done that twice).

I think we are ready for the race next Sunday :)

Half marathon, here I come!

Trying to Stay Sane!

I can't believe I forgot. Somehow in all the excitement of Matthew coming home and of, you know, being a mom, I forgot all about those last few months before he was here.

I forgot about how crazy with excitement I was.

I forgot how I would lay awake at night for hours thinking about him and about what it would be like to have him in my arms.

I forgot how I would stalk the mailman...and my email...and the adoption forums, always hoping for a glimpse of good news.

I forgot how I would check my phone a million times a day just to make sure it was on, and that I hadn't missed a call.

I forgot about the nesting, the cleaning, the list-making.

Today, it all came back to me in a rush. Because I am so there again. Keeping my mind on other things is such a challenge these days. Tonight I organized Matthew and Nathan's room in preparation for putting up the crib again. And then since that wasn't enough, I cleaned out the cupboard in the bathroom. And went through all our kids books weeding out ones we don't read.

I'm feeling desperate to meet my boy! I just can't wait! I can't wait to have him in my arms!!!

This morning, totally out of the blue, Matthew said to me, "Nathan home right now!!!"

I know, buddy. I feel the same way!!!

I'm Loving

I'm loving this new little hat

on this precious little boy

I'm loving the silly grins

and giggles that just melt my heart

I'm loving that he'll keep hats and sunglasses on at last!

well...sometimes :)

I'm loving the thought of two little boys

running around the yard together

driving their mama crazy :)

And I'm loving these shirts I found tonight!

I'm loving these special times with Matthew

and I'm loving the excitement that comes

as we wait to bring baby brother home.

This really is a lot of fun!!!!!

Sleepy Boy

Yesterday afternoon, in our kitchen, while eating lunch...

Fast asleep!
